RenEWABLE fiber board

Make more of less. Developing base materials and process concept for production of new fiber boards made of recycled production waste for a world leading furniture company. From feasability study to proof of concept, to preparing for investment.

BACKGROUND

The project would look at the possibility of taking advantage of waste from the production of fiber boards and using it for new boards instead of incineration.

CHALLENGE

The biggest challenge was to find an additive that worked well with the recycled fiberboard and make the board to hold together and keep the strength.

SOLUTION

By optimizing the grinding of the old fiber boards and adding the right type and amount of additive together with pressure, new boards of similar quality could be manufactured.

RESULT

From being a chosen truth in that it is not possible to make new fiber boards from waste material, we were able to prove that it worked and it resulted in the waste being converted into a resource that generated money instead of the other way around.
